The over 50s should not be forgotten or discarded, I feel, no I KNOW, that life is far from a ‘downward slope’.

I know how hard it can be to stay positive, look forward instead of back, but I'm here to reassure you that you can build the lifestyle you want, it's not too late. Over the years I’ve been supported by some amazing men and women and now I want to give back, you can learn from my experience.

I want to support you, share effective tips tricks and ideas I’ve picked up along the way.

A couple of years ago I finally realised that I didn’t want to settle for something I knew wouldn’t be fulfilling or rewarding. Even then leaving the rat race was a hard decision. Since age 13 I’d always had a pay slip, a regular income. There’s been tears, doubts, rebellion even anger however...

I’ve come out the other side and I’ve never been happier!

We over 50s have the luxury of experience. We have technology at our finger tips that can truly make our lives so much easier. Many people feel left behind or excluded but there’s no need to be. It’s there for the taking.

Life is awesome and we need to go out and grab it.

When did my life take an upward turn?

In my 40s I realised that even though I was good at my job, my career (in risk management, planning, research and training) wasn’t what I wanted to do ‘when I grew up.’ So I took action. I decided to go back into education, still working full time to afford the fees. After 6 years of deadlines and assignments I completed my Bachelor of Arts in Literature.

Promotion and redundancies led to numerous pivots, ups and downs, self doubt. I took action, I volunteered as a mentor for teenagers, my first taste of giving back and the most rewarding work I'd done to date.

In my 50s I got married. Became a grandmother. Moved to another town, co-incidentally ending up back where I was born. I was yet again offered a change in role but this time I took action, I decided to take the redundancy offer.

I’ve been there, done it, worn the t-shirt.

It certainly wasn’t all plain sailing, it was sometimes downright scary. Some changes were my choices, some certainly beyond my control. Either way I embraced the changes, learned how to move forward and not look back. I took a gap year, travelled, wrote fiction and had family time. I’ve come out the other side and I’ve never been happier!
